Miami is situated on the Atlantic coast, to the southern tip of Florida. It is characterized by warm climatic conditions all year round, with summers being very hot and humid. As such, one can never miss out on the outdoor activities which remain open throughout the year. However, October through April records high tourist numbers. A large percentage of Miami’s population is made up of thousands of many immigrants of Hispanic origin from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America. Some people will often confuse Miami for Miami Beach and vice versa. These are completely two different cities. Miami Beach is a completely tourism oriented city consisting of facilities mainly geared towards tourist attraction. The city is found on the outer bank. Miami on the other hand is considered to be a cosmopolitan city and is located on the mainland. However, the two cities are neighborhoods to each other.

There is a wide range of tourist attractions in Miami. Other than the beach fun, one can opt to visit other sites like the Monkey Jungle, the Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Metro-Dade Cultural Center, the Metrozoo, the Holocaust Memorial or the Italian style Vizcaya villa. Tourists can also treat themselves to some great fun by taking part in activities like fishing, snorkeling, boating, water skiing, skin diving, tennis sessions and golfing. There are also the spectator sports that include Jai alai, greyhound, dog and horse racing. For some nightlife entertainment, one can visit the large hotels in Miami Beach for stage shows. To know specifically what is happening and where, there is a free copy of the “This Week in Miami-Miami Beach” magazine which is available in any hotel. The magazine lists all the current shows and events.  Nightclubs, bars and restaurants are found in the Deco District.

Both Miami and Miami Beach cities are known for the top class restaurants found in the cities and their environs. One can expect to find whatever cuisine they prefer, ranging from the local specialty of fresh seafood to the exotic Italian and French cuisines. The Key Lime Pie is a popular dessert in Florida. One of the most significant restaurants is the Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant found in Miami Beach.

There are two large national parks near Miami, the Everglades National Park and the Biscayne National Park. The former is the largest subtropical park still surviving in the USA, covering over 1.5 million acres of land with natural habitat.

Lastly, as with any large city in the world where personal security is a great concern, Miami tends to have a higher crime rate. Tourists are always advised to be careful with their luggage and valuables and never venture into dangerous zones alone. Nevertheless, it is still relatively safe to visit the city.
